How does the cycle tracker work?

Mental health and wellness

Log your flow on the Log tab, and the Calendar tab shows dates worked out from your past cycles.

This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.

Steps

  1. Open Wellness and find Menstrual Cycle in the Condition-Specific group.
  2. Tap the Log tab. Check the date at the top. Tap Today to use today's date.
  3. Under Period Flow, choose None, Spotting, Light, Medium, Heavy or Very Heavy.
  4. If you want, add cervical mucus, your temperature, symptoms and notes.
  5. Tap Save Log. If that day already has a log, the screen loads it so you can change it, and the button says Update Log.
  6. Open the Calendar tab to see your cycle day, the next period date and a three-month calendar.

How the dates are worked out

SOS counts a period day when you log a flow of Light or more. It finds the start of each period and averages the gaps between starts. Until you have logged two periods, it uses 28 days.

It then adds that average to your last period start to guess the next period. It also shows a fertile window and an ovulation day, worked out from the same average.

These are simple averages, not a medical test. Cycles vary, so the dates can be wrong. Do not use them as birth control.

The Health tab

The Health tab is general reading about phases, pain, contraception and when to see a doctor. It says it is for education and is not medical advice.

Your data

Cycle logs are health data. They are saved to your account, and other members cannot see them. You can delete a day's log with Delete Log.

What happens next

The more periods you log, the closer the dates follow your own pattern.
