Why can't I post? It says wait or links are blocked
New accounts wait about 10 minutes to post and about 24 hours to add links.
This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.
What you may see
A brand-new account has to wait before it can post, comment, reply, start a forum thread or send a message.
The wait is about 10 minutes from the moment you created the account. The message on your screen says how many minutes are left.
For about the first 24 hours, a new account also cannot put links in a post, comment or message.
After that, one post can hold up to 3 links. If you add more, you are asked to keep it to 3.
These numbers can change, so trust the message on your screen.
What counts as a link
Anything that starts with http or www counts. So does a website name written without http, such as a name followed by a common ending like com or org.
What to do
- Wait for the number of minutes the message gives, then try again. On the Feed, your text stays in the box.
- While you wait, you can read, join circles and set up your profile.
- If the message is about links, take the link out and post again. You can add it later.
- If the message asks you to verify your email address, open the email from SOS, or ask for a new one in Settings.
What is not held back
A draft, or a post you set to Only Me, is not held back.
Messages that do not say why
A few messages only say that you can't comment on a post, or can't share one, right now. SOS does not give a reason for these.
If you need to talk to someone
If you need to talk to someone right now, here are lines that answer at any time. Call or text 988 at any time to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. If you are in danger right now, call 911.
What happens next
When the wait is over, post as usual. The wait counts from the day you created the account, not from your last post.
