What is the Community (Commons)?
The Commons is where SOS members post, join circles, send messages and take on challenges.
Where to find it
Open the Commons tab at the bottom of the screen. On a computer it is Commons in the sidebar.
The screen is titled SOS Community. It has four tabs: Feed, Connect, Explore and My Community.
What each tab is for
Feed shows posts that members shared with everyone. Above them is a box called Share with the Community, where you write your own.
Connect has Compass, Accountability Partners, Messages and Notifications. It also lists your groups and upcoming events.
Explore lists the other community tools, from Circles and Group Challenges to topic pages.
My Community shows how many groups, events and challenges you have joined. It also lists your circles and your active challenges.
Who can see what
Only signed-in members can read the Commons. People who are not signed in cannot.
A post you share as Public can be read by every signed-in member. Choose Only Me for a post that is for you alone.
Before you post
A new account has to wait a short while before it can post or send messages.
The SOS Community Standards apply here. They draw on the Human Accord. You are asked to agree to them when you join or start a circle.
On any post, the Post options button lets you report it, hide it, mute the person or block them.
If the Commons asks about your age
A banner can say Confirm your age to keep using the community. Tap Confirm my age to open Settings, then Your age, or tap Not now to hide it for 7 days on this device.
If the Commons shows Confirm your age to use the community instead, it stays closed until you confirm. Your tools, your learning, your own data and Help stay open.
Members aged 13 to 17 see Community features are for members 18 and over for now. The Help article It asks me to confirm my age explains what this means.
If you need help right now
The Commons is not a crisis service. If you need to talk to someone right now, here are lines that answer at any time. Call or text 988 at any time to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. If you are in danger right now, call 911.
