How do I create or join a circle?

Community

Open Circles from the Connect tab, then use Explore to join one or Create to start your own.

This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.

Steps

  1. Open the Commons tab, tap Connect, then tap View All Groups. This opens Circles, which has three tabs: My Circles, Explore and Create.
  2. To join, tap Explore. Search by name, topic or tag, or pick a category.
  3. Tap Join on a Public circle, or Request on a Private one. A box with the community standards opens.
  4. Tick the agreement and tap I Agree & Continue. A Public circle adds you at once. A Private one shows Requested until an admin accepts you.
  5. To start your own, tap the Create tab and type a Circle Name. Everything else is optional.
  6. Pick a category, a description, who can join, a member limit and posting rules, then tap Create Circle.
  7. Agree to the standards. Your new circle opens, and you are its founder.

Who can join

Public means anyone can find and join. Private means people can find it but must ask to join.

Invite Only circles are hidden from Explore. The app has no invite button yet, so choose Public or Private if you want new people to find you.

Post, leave or withdraw

To post, open the circle, tap Share something with the circle, write your post and tap Post to Circle. New accounts have a short wait before posting.

To leave, open the circle, tap Joined and confirm. If you only asked to join, tap Requested to withdraw.

The other Create Circle form

Create a Group on the Connect tab opens a second Create Circle form. It asks for a Circle Name and a Category.

It also has Description, Privacy, Max Members, Meeting Frequency, Tags and Accent Color, and a place for circle rules. In Privacy, the hidden kind is called Secret instead of Invite Only. It makes the same kind of circle.
