If you are in danger call 911.

  • 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: call or text 988 at any time.
  • Crisis Text Line: text HOME to 741741 at any time.

These are United States lines. In the app, the Get help now button opens support lines for your country.

I wrote something dark in my journal. Will anyone see it?

Safety and crisis help

You are not alone. Staff cannot open your journal and are not alerted to what you write, but the person who runs the server could read it. Call or text 988 at any time to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. If you are in danger right now, call 911.

Who can see your journal

Your journal entries are saved in your SOS account. The server's rules let only your own account open them. Staff roles are not set up to read journal entries.

Staff do not monitor journals. No alert goes to staff about what you write in one.

The person who runs the server can technically read anything stored there.

The privacy policy says our practice is to look at member content in only three cases. These are to keep the service running, to deal with a report of abuse or danger, and when the law requires it.

What the app does

While you type, the app checks your words on your device. If they show signs of distress, a support banner appears with crisis lines. It may say "You don't have to face this alone."

That check runs on your device. The result is not saved or sent anywhere.

What staff do read

Staff can read feedback you send and reports you file.

A report that names self-harm is flagged as urgent for a person to look at. It is still not answered in real time.

More ways to get support

The Get help now button opens support lines for your country. SOS Mode has breathing and grounding exercises. Both work without an account.

Deleting an entry

You can delete a journal entry in the journal. Deleting your account removes your journal entries from the live service.
