What do parental controls actually do?

Goals, calendar and Home

The settings are saved, but SOS does not apply them, so they do not limit what a child can open.

This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.

What the screen says

The screen is headed These settings are saved, not enforced. These screens do not limit what a child can see or do in SOS. The settings you save are not applied anywhere else in the app yet.

They do not filter content, limit messages, track time or send notifications.

What each setting is

These settings are each marked Saved only: Safe search, approved contacts only, parent can read messages and show activity history. Activity notifications, message notifications and approval for new features are marked the same way.

SOS has no screen for reading a child's messages, and it does not send those notifications yet.

The Daily time limit is a saved number. SOS does not track or limit time.

In the Family area, approving or denying a request only records your answer. It does not change what a child can open.

Where the screen is

  1. Open the Family area from the link on this page.
  2. On a child's card, tap the settings button, which is called Saved settings.

What to use instead

A child using a signed-in SOS account can open any screen that account can open. To control what a child can open, use the parental controls built into the phone or tablet. Examples are Screen Time on Apple devices and Family Link on Android.
