Can my teen use their own account?

Goals, calendar and Home

Yes, if they are 13 or older, which is the age SOS requires, though SOS cannot confirm real ages.

The age rule

A person needs to be at least 13 years old to create an account and use SOS. When someone creates an account they give a date of birth or confirm that they are 13 or older. SOS cannot confirm their real age.

SOS is not for children under 13.

What the terms say about people under 18

The Terms say that people under 18 should read the Terms and the Privacy Policy with a parent or guardian.

The finance tools are meant for adults, 18 and over. Some parts of SOS, such as the community, direct messages and the finance tools, are written with adults in mind.

When SOS knows an account belongs to someone aged 13 to 17, some community features are closed for now. Their tools, learning, own data and Help work as usual.

What SOS does not have

SOS has no separate teen account and no parent controls that limit an account. The Family area can hold profiles for children aged 4 to 17, but new ones are switched off, and its settings do not limit anything.

To control what a teen can open, use the parental controls built into the phone or tablet. Examples are Screen Time on Apple devices and Family Link on Android.

If your teen needs support

If your teen needs to talk to someone right now, here are lines that answer at any time. Call or text 988 at any time to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. If you are in danger right now, call 911.
