How do I sign in with a code from my email?
Type your email on the sign-in screen, tap Email me a sign-in code, and type the 8-digit code from the email within 3 minutes.
Steps
- On the sign-in screen, tap Already have an account? Sign in. In the window called Welcome back, type your email address in the Email box.
- Under the Sign In button, tap Email me a sign-in code. If you do not see it, sign-in codes are not available right now, so use your password.
- Open the email from Solution Oriented Society. The subject is "Your one-time sign-in code for Solution Oriented Society". Check spam or junk too.
- Come back to the window, which now says Check your email. Type the 8 digits into the code box. The code works for 3 minutes.
- The Keep me signed in box is there too. Tick or untick it, then tap Sign in with code.
- Wrong digits? Each code allows 5 tries. When they are used up, tap Send me a new code as soon as the countdown ends.
- To use your password instead, tap Use my password instead.
Where to find it
The button sits under the Sign In button, below a line that says OR. It shows only when SOS has sign-in codes switched on.
On the Forgot Password screen, look under Other ways back in for Email one-time code. Type your email, tap Email me a code, then type the code and tap Verify code and sign in.
A code does not replace your password. Your password keeps working.
What a code allows
A code has 8 digits. It works for 3 minutes, and it works once.
Each code allows 5 tries. After the fifth wrong try the code is used up, even if you then type the right one. Ask for a new code.
The screen shows the same message for a wrong code and for a code that has run out. If more than 3 minutes have passed, ask for a new one.
How often you can ask
You can ask for one code a minute and 5 codes an hour for each account. After you ask, the screen counts down one minute before it lets you ask again.
A request that comes too soon gets the usual answer, but no email is sent. Asking again and again does not bring a code sooner. Ask once and wait.
Keep the window open
The code in your email works only with the request that made it. If you close the Welcome back window, or leave the page, the code stops working.
The two help links on the code screen are different. They keep your code. If you came here from one of them, go back and tap Already have an account? Sign in. Your code screen is kept unless you reload the page.
If you did close the window, wait a full minute after your last request. Then ask for a new code.
If the code does not come
Check your spam or junk folder, and search for Solution Oriented Society. In the Welcome back window, check that Asked for shows the address you meant.
The screen never says whether an address has an account. When a request goes through, it says, "If that address has an account, we have emailed a code."
If an amber note says email from SOS isn't working right now, the code may not arrive. Sign in with your password, or try again later.
The Email not arriving guide can walk you through it. You can also write to admin@sosforchange.org from the address you signed up with.
If codes pause
After 10 wrong tries in an hour on one account, sign-in codes pause for 15 minutes. The codes already sent stop working, and no new one is sent until the pause ends.
The screen does not announce the pause. It looks normal, but no email arrives. Your password still works, and so does a reset link.
If the screen says "Too many tries from this connection", wait about 3 minutes and try again.
Stay safe
SOS staff never ask for your code. Do not share it with anyone.
If you get a code email you did not ask for, you can ignore it. Nothing changes unless someone types the code. If it keeps happening, use Forgot Password? to choose a new password, then write to admin@sosforchange.org.
What happens next
You end up in the same account as when you sign in with your password.
