It asks me to confirm my age
If SOS asks you to confirm your age, open Settings, then Your age, and enter your date of birth once.
This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.
Steps
- Open Settings and tap Your age. If there is no Your age row, SOS is not using age groups for accounts right now, and you have nothing to do.
- On Confirm your age, choose the month, the day and the year you were born.
- Tap Confirm. The page says Thanks. Your age group is saved.
- Your age then shows your age group, your date of birth and how it was added.
Why SOS asks
Some parts of SOS work differently depending on age. Your date of birth sets up the right protections for your account.
Other members never see it. SOS keeps it with your account's protected records and copies it into your private profile, so the health tools can work out your age.
You can't change it yourself afterwards, and SOS cannot check that it is true.
If your date is wrong
Open Settings, then Your age, and tap Contact us. Tell us what is wrong. The screen says a person at SOS will fix it.
We read every note. We can't promise a reply time.
If you are 13 to 17
Your age shows 13 to 15 or 16 to 17. Some community features are for members 18 and over for now.
In the Commons you see a page with that message and a Go to Home button. Your tools, your learning, your own data and Help work as usual.
Your profile is Not listed. SOS updates your age group shortly after your 16th and 18th birthdays.
If the community asks you to confirm
The Commons can show a banner that says Confirm your age to keep using the community. Tap Confirm my age to open Your age, or tap Not now to hide the banner for 7 days on this device.
If the Commons shows Confirm your age to use the community instead, the community stays closed until you confirm. Your tools, your learning, your own data and Help stay open.
If your account is paused
A paused account is one that SOS treats as belonging to someone under 13. The page says This account is paused and has Open Help, Contact us and Sign out.
