How do I scan a barcode?
In a web browser the camera reads QR codes only, so type the number under the barcode instead.
This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.
Steps
- Find the number printed under the barcode on the package.
- Open Wellness, then Nutrition Hub, then Food Database.
- Tap the Search tab, then tap Barcode.
- Type the number and tap Look up. A product barcode has 8 to 14 digits.
- Tap the result to see its details. Check that the name matches your package. Then tap Log to Food Diary.
- The Food Diary opens on that product. Set the amount and tap Add to Diary. If it cannot open the product, it searches for its name instead.
What the camera scanner does
The Food Diary has a scan button next to the close button on the Add screen. It asks for your camera and shows a frame.
In a web browser, the camera can read QR codes only. It cannot read the bars of a product barcode, so it will not find your food.
What is sent
Only the barcode number goes to Open Food Facts, the open food database SOS uses for look-ups. The camera picture stays on your device.
If the product is not found
The screen says Product not found. Check the number first. Open Food Facts does not have every product. Search by name instead, or enter the numbers yourself in the Diet Log.
