What is the Help button and how do I move it?
The Help button opens search and a note form, and you can move it by pressing and holding it or by tapping Move this button.
Steps
- Look for the button labelled Help. It starts in the middle of the right edge of the screen. On a very narrow screen it shows only a question mark icon.
- Tap it. Type your question in the search box at the top, or tap a suggestion.
- Tap Send a note instead if you want to write to us.
- To move the button, press and hold it for half a second, or tap Move this button at the bottom of the Help window.
- Choose where it should sit: Right side, Left side, Bottom right or Top right. The button moves at once.
- On a computer you can press the ? key to open Help. It does not work while you are typing in a box.
Help or Get help now
The Help button is for questions about using SOS. If you are in crisis or need to talk to someone, use the Get help now button instead. It has a lifebuoy icon and it works without an account.
If you need to talk to someone now: Call or text 988 at any time to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. You can also text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line. If you are in danger right now, call 911.
If it is in the way
The Move menu has four places and no off switch, so the button cannot be hidden. Pick the place where it covers the least.
Where it does not show
The Help button is hidden in SOS Mode, so nothing sits between you and the calming tools.
It also steps aside while the Help window is open. It does the same while the Support Resources window from Get help now is open, so it does not cover the crisis lines. The ? key does nothing at those times either.
If the Help window is switched off
If the SOS team switches the Help window off, the Help button opens the Help Center page instead, and the ? key does nothing.
Your choice is remembered
SOS remembers where you put the button on this device. It does not move to another phone or browser.
If your device will not save the choice, the button still moves for now and may move back next time.
