How do the vault auto-lock and erase options work?
The vault locks again after a time you pick, and can erase itself after wrong PINs.
This needs an account. Sign in to the app first.
Auto-Lock Timer
Open the Security tab in the vault. Auto-Lock Timer offers 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes or Never (not recommended). It starts at 5 minutes.
The timer counts the time you are away from SOS. If you come back after that long, the vault is locked and asks for your PIN again.
It does not lock the vault while you are looking at it.
Wrong PINs
After 3 wrong PINs in a row, the vault makes you wait. The wait is 30 seconds first, then twice as long each time, up to one hour.
Closing the screen or reloading the page does not skip the wait.
The wait slows down guessing on this device. It cannot stop someone who copies your stored data and guesses somewhere else, so a longer PIN is safer.
Erase after 10 wrong PINs
This is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, the tenth wrong PIN in a row erases everything in the vault from this device.
That includes you if you forget your PIN. Turn it on only if you keep a backup file.
SOS asks you to confirm before it turns on. It only works when the vault is locked with a PIN.
Backup passphrase
A backup file has its own passphrase, which is not your vault PIN. If the passphrase is wrong, the backup does not open.
